Neighbor and brother chase down burglary suspect before he's shot dead in Alief, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect was killed and another is on the run after an armed neighbor confronted two suspects during an attempted burglary in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators said the string of events began around 7 a.m. on Friday, when a call came in about a burglary in the 11000 block of Bandlon Drive, but the suspects escaped before officers arrived.

A second burglary call was reported after 1 p.m., after investigators said the homeowner saw on his security cameras that people were burglarizing his house.

HPD said that the homeowner called his neighbor to alert him of the burglary. That neighbor then got his brother and confronted the burglary suspects.

Lt. Crowson said the suspects ran down the street and that the two men followed them in a vehicle.

Crowson said that, down the street, after a confrontation with the suspects, one of the two men shot one of the suspects.

HPD previously reported that the suspect was able to jump a fence while wounded, but that he ultimately died at the scene.

Eyewitness News arrived at the area and found the multiple crime scenes, including the original one at Bandlon Drive and another on nearby High Star Drive. Eyewitness News also captured a car that had crashed into a fence along Cinnabar Drive.

Investigators did not say whether the neighbor or his brother shot the suspect, and they also did not specify the exact number of suspects involved.

According to HPD, no arrests have been made, and an investigation is still ongoing.
